The Dragoneers Boat Club recently held a special raffle to help support the club’s growing junior dragon boat program, giving the community an opportunity to win while supporting a great cause.
The featured raffle prize was an electric scooter generously donated by Paul Carpenter. Thanks to Paul’s donation and the enthusiastic support of raffle participants, all proceeds from the raffle went to the Dragoneers, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building community through the sport of dragon boat racing.

Congratulations to Cheryl Matthews of Wildwood, Fla., the lucky winner of the electric scooter!
Cheryl was thrilled to win the raffle and shared that she plans to share the scooter with her daughter, making the prize even more special.
The Dragoneers would like to thank Cheryl and everyone in the community who purchased raffle tickets and helped make the fundraiser a success. A special thank-you also goes to Paul Carpenter for donating the electric scooter and helping the club raise funds for its junior teams.
Supporting Local Youth Through Dragon Boat Racing
The Dragoneers are committed to introducing young people to the teamwork, discipline, fitness, and camaraderie of dragon boat racing. Through its community outreach efforts, the organization has established two community dragon boat teams for local students:
- South Sumter High School
- Wildwood Junior High School
Funds raised through events such as this raffle help provide opportunities and resources for these young athletes as they learn the sport and experience the benefits of being part of a team.
Dragon boat racing is a sport built around teamwork. Every paddler must work together, synchronize their strokes, and support one another to move the boat forward. The Dragoneers believe those same principles can help young people develop confidence, leadership, perseverance, and lasting friendships.
